Any S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game franchise fans out there? If so, have you ever wondered from whence the thought-provoking storyline in that game originated?

Well, it was loosely based on a book by the Strugatsky Brothers called Roadside Picnic (Пикник на обочине). A movie was made in 1979 called Stalker (Сталкер). It was directed by Andrei Tarkovsky with a screenplay by the Strugatsky Brothers.

The movie is not an adrenalin-pumping romp through The Zone that you’ve come to expect from the games. However, it is a deeply symbolic and human story.

If you have the time, I’d recommend you read the book and watch the movie. It will broaden your S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience.

Enjoy!

P.S. You can read more articles that I’ve written about the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games and a review of Roadside Picnic at my Nocturnal Slacker v2.0 blog.
